December 2024 saw a number of significant developments concerning the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA):

• ratification by Madagascar : On 4 December 2024, Madagascar took a significant step forward by ratifying the FTAA agreement, demonstrating its commitment to integrating the continental market and boosting its economy.

• update of the electronic price book : On 3 December 2024, the WCO-EU Programme on Rules of Origin in Africa, in collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat, launched a new module on Rules of Origin. This initiative aims to provide African businesses with essential commercial information to facilitate intra-African trade.

• meeting of the Intergovernmental Committees of Senior Officials and Experts : From 19 to 21 November 2024, the offices of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in North and West Africa held a joint meeting in Rabat, Morocco. The aim was to accelerate the implementation of the FTAA by focusing on digital transformation and economic diversification.

These events illustrate the continued progress in the implementation of the AfCFTA, aimed at strengthening economic integration and promoting trade on the African continent.
